Course Description
Dr. Sandweiss will lecture and demonstrate effective manual techniques for resolving somatic dysfunction problems of the low back, pelvis, cervical, thoracic, TMJ, and extremity areas. Attendees will learn valuable and effective treatment techniques for managing common conditions across multiple body regions and will have the opportunity to practice these methods individually and in group settings through a hands-on approach. Additionally, he will teach a fast and efficient protocol for identifying disturbances in the acupuncture meridian system and offer effective acupressure techniques that can resolve these energy imbalances with manual stimulation alone, not requiring the insertion of acupuncture needles. This will allow manual therapists to add new tools to their treatment skillset without needing to necessarily use acupuncture needles.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this two-day course attendees will:
- Understand the fundamental principles of diagnosis and multiple techniques used to perform osteopathic manipulative treatment
- Appreciate the role of manual muscle testing to diagnose dysfunctions of the neuromusculoskeletal system that cause patients’ conditions and complaints
- Practice these manual tests for all regions presented in the course
- Practice a series of palpation techniques that specifically identify where the patient needs treatment
- Learn a unique protocol for identifying and treating acupuncture meridian disturbances using manual technique without needles
- Learn a variety of nutritional pearls that correlate synergistically with patient conditions and manual treatment protocols presented during this course
About Applied Kinesiology:
- Applied Kinesiology is a unique system of diagnosis and treatment that utilizes manual muscle testing to determine the underlying factors responsible for somatic dysfunctions.
- Each muscle in the body has been correlated with a specific organ or gland, acupuncture meridian, Chapman reflex, Bennett’s reflex, nutritional need, cranial stress receptor or other significant treatment modality.
- A protocol is taught that systematically seeks out the specific therapies needed by the patient to achieve a healing response
- Applied Kinesiology began over 60 years ago, and has continued to evolve as a powerful force in the healing arts.
- The founder, Dr. George Goodheart, Jr., has expanded upon the viscero-somatic concept to include the major muscles of the body, in addition to the traditional spinal-level relationships.
- The benefits of learning Applied Kinesiology are many:
- One learns to artfully test all the major muscle groups in the body.
- This muscle testing helps us find the exact weakness pattern underlying a patient complaint, (e.g., shoulder, knee or back complaint).
- On the most advanced level, the Applied Kinesiologist acquires a powerful algorithm for working through patient problems.
- This algorithm integrates novel concepts of holographic neurology with the treatment techniques of numerous other healing arts.
- Applied Kinesiology is quite helpful in working with chronic and recurrent somatic dysfunctions.
Instructor Biography
Jay Sandweiss D.O. offers over 47 years of clinical experience as a multi-faceted physician/healer and master course instructor. Since 1979, Dr. Sandweiss has presented his knowledge and skills nationally and internationally to audiences that have included: medical doctors, osteopathic physicians, chiropractors, nurses, physical therapists, athletic trainers, certified massage therapists, and other health professionals.
His courses integrate manual muscle testing and skilled palpation with comprehensive osteopathic and functional medicine algorithms that effectively diagnose and treat complex patient presentations. Attendees are offered a rich variety of manual medicine techniques for resolving somatic dysfunctions throughout the body. Numerous nutritional pearls are offered for the treatment of common clinical disorders.
Over the past 37 years, Dr. Sandweiss has practiced medicine as an osteopathic physician, board certified in neuromusculoskeletal medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and medical acupuncture. His avid interests and study of functional/nutritional medicine allow him to also look at problems through a nutritional/metabolic lens that explores cellular and hormonal physiology, while simultaneously assessing the more macro-ergonomic effects of somatic dysfunctions on a disrupted anatomy.
Since 1974, Dr. Sandweiss has been practicing and teaching several martial arts including Karate, Kung Fu, and Aikido. From 1977 to 1978, he studied abroad with famous Karate and Kung Fu grandmasters based in Taiwan and Okinawa. In June 2026, Dr. Sandweiss presented a series of martial arts seminars in Atlanta, Georgia. His martial arts training has provided him with a refined kinesthetic awareness and insight into kinesiology and body language. Thus, Dr. Sandweiss brings to his courses a unique blend of approaches for managing diverse health conditions including pain, stress, and musculoskeletal dysfunctions. At the office, he is a “one- stop shop” offering his patients osteopathic manipulation, medical acupuncture, functional medicine, nutrition, exercise prescription, and basic family medicine.
Dr. Sandweiss has been on the Ann Arbor Film Festival Board of Directors since 2021. He is Executive Producer of the acclaimed documentary film: WELCOME TO COMMIE HIGH and is a continuous supporter of creative arts.
Dr. Sandweiss will be teaching Fast and Effective Techniques for Acupuncturists: Integrating Manual Muscle Testing, Applied Kinesiology, and Osteopathic Manipulation to Manage Musculoskeletal Problems and Optimize Motor Function at The Julius Prague (Prague, Czech Republic) — December 7-8, 2026.
