Fast and Effective Techniques for Acupuncturists: Integrating Manual Muscle Testing, Applied Kinesiology, and Osteopathic Manipulation to Manage Musculoskeletal Problems and Optimize Motor Function

Course Instructor:

Jay Sandweiss D.O., C-NMM/OMM, DABMA, FAAMA

Workshop Dates:

Monday: December 7, 2026 09:00-17:30
Tuesday: December 8, 2026 09:00-17:30

Location: The Julius Prague (Prague, Czech Republic)
Address: Senovážné nám. 3, 110 00 Nové Město, Czechia

Intended Audience: Health Professionals with a license to perform acupuncture

Course Description:

This course offers attendees an opportunity to learn Applied Kinesiology and how to integrate manual muscle testing with osteopathic techniques into an acupuncture treatment. Dr. Jay Sandweiss is an osteopathic physician with over 47 years of experience integrating acupuncture and osteopathic treatment strategies. Applied Kinesiology is a method of precise muscle testing to determine the pattern of neuromuscular inhibition present in persistent musculoskeletal and chronic pain conditions. Students will learn to identify inhibited muscles and to correlate this muscle dysfunction with a particular acupuncture meridian and treatment approach.

UNE COM has requested that the AOA Council on Continuing Medical Education approve this program for a maximum of 15.0 hours of AOA Category 1-A CME credits. Approval is currently pending. For more details, see "Continuing Medical Education and Accreditation" at the bottom of the page.

Course Objectives:

  • Identify meridian imbalances using MU points combined with manual muscle testing.
  • Identify meridian imbalances using radial artery pulse points with manual muscle testing.
  • Evaluate for the presence of segmental level somatic dysfunctions that are present at the precise location of back SHU points and learn fast effective treatments for resolving those dysfunctions.
  • Distinguish specific major muscle groups that are correlated with specific acupuncture meridians (e.g. PSOAS muscle relationship to the kidney meridian).
  • Apply a muscle dance sequence that follows the 24-hour clock RONG cycle demonstrating the kinesiology movements of each of those muscles and the corresponding manual muscle test for that muscle group.
  • Apply multiple osteopathic manipulation techniques for releasing specific acupuncture points and their associated channels

**All the above Learning Objectives are intended to enhance the diagnostic and treatment skills of health professionals whose licenses allow them to practice acupuncture.

Instructor Biography:

Jay Sandweiss D.O., C-NMM/OMM, DABMA, FAAMA

Jay Sandweiss D.O. offers over 47 years of clinical experience as a multi-faceted physician/healer and master course instructor. Since 1979, Dr. Sandweiss has presented his knowledge and skills nationally and internationally to audiences that have included: medical doctors, osteopathic physicians, chiropractors, nurses, physical therapists, athletic trainers, certified massage therapists, and other health professionals.

His courses integrate manual muscle testing, medical acupuncture, and skilled palpation with comprehensive osteopathic and functional medicine algorithms that effectively diagnose and treat complex patient presentations. Attendees are offered an efficient and effective diagnosis and treatment approach for finding acupuncture meridian disorders as well as a rich variety of manual medicine techniques for resolving somatic dysfunctions throughout the body. Numerous nutritional pearls are offered for the treatment of common clinical disorders.

Over the past 37 years, Dr. Sandweiss has practiced medicine as an osteopathic physician, board certified in neuromusculoskeletal medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and medical acupuncture. His avid interests and study of functional/nutritional medicine allow him to look at problems through a nutritional/metabolic lens that explores cellular and hormonal physiology, while simultaneously assessing the more macro-ergonomic effects of somatic dysfunctions on a disrupted anatomy.

Since 1974, Dr. Sandweiss has been practicing and teaching several martial arts including Karate, Kung Fu, and Aikido. From 1977 to 1978, he studied abroad with famous Karate and Kung Fu grandmasters based in Taiwan and Okinawa. In May 2024, Dr. Sandweiss presented a series of martial arts seminars in Atlanta, Georgia. His martial arts training has provided him with a refined kinesthetic awareness and insight into kinesiology and body language. Thus, Dr. Sandweiss brings to his courses a unique blend of approaches for managing diverse health conditions including pain, stress, and musculoskeletal dysfunctions. At the office, he is a “one- stop shop” offering his patients osteopathic manipulation, medical acupuncture, functional medicine, nutrition, exercise prescription, and basic family medicine.
